Muddy River

Muddy River

There’s a muddy river running through this town,
And I like to walk along the bank when I get down,
If trouble, pain and heartache make me weary of lifes charms,
I know that I can step into her cold and open arms,
Her cold and open arms, her cold and open arms,
Went from that muddy river to her cold and open arms.

It was on this dirty shore that i first kissed,
And the warmth of that young love is what’s now most surely missed,
She locked my lonely heart and threw away the key,
Then like the rain that river, took my girl away from me,
Took my girl away from me, took my girl away from me,
I let that muddy river take my girl away from me.

When i get weary of this lonely life,
And the blood inside my veins – well it aches from all the strife,
If I can’t find the strength to reach the other side,
I’ll let that muddy river wash away my foolish pride,
Wash away my foolish pride, wash away my foolish pride,
I’ll let that muddy river wash away my foolish pride.
